02 FACT OF THE DAY

Devon Island · MYTH BUSTED

Earth's largest uninhabited island isn't Greenland

Ask someone to name the world's largest uninhabited island and most people say Greenland, except Greenland has about 56,000 residents. The real answer is Devon Island, a 55,247-square-kilometer slab of Canadian Arctic tundra bigger than Croatia, with a permanent population of exactly zero.

03 PLACE OF THE DAY

39.53° N, 119.81° W

Reno, Nevada

Reno sells itself as a high-desert gambling town in the shadow of the Sierra Nevada, a few hours' drive inland from the California coast. Inland is the word that misleads.
